Italy Launches Fully Digital Schengen and National Visa System from June 2026
Italy has fully digitized its Schengen and national visa application process, including digital nomad visas, effective June 1, 2026, simplifying online submissions.
Italy’s new digital system specifically applies to Schengen short-stay (Type C) and national long-stay (Type D) visa applications, including those for digital nomad visas. Travellers applying for these categories will now submit all supporting documents online, eliminating the previous requirement for an in-person consular appointment solely for document submission. However, applicants must still attend a consulate appointment to provide their biometric data. This procedural update does not alter any existing eligibility criteria or financial thresholds for any visa type. The shift aims to streamline the application process rather than relax entry requirements.
