Kenya Implements Mandatory Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for Most Foreign Visitors

Kenya has made its Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) system mandatory for most foreign visitors, replacing prior entry requirements.

The new system is now mandatory for all foreign visitors, with the exception of citizens from East African Community Member States including Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda, and Tanzania. Previously issued e-visas remain valid, and passengers transiting without leaving airport precincts are exempt from the requirement. All eligible travellers must apply at least three days before commencing travel, with the authorisation being valid for 90 days from its issuance date. While a payment card is required for applications, nationals of Comoros, the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville), Eritrea, Ethiopia, Mozambique, San Marino, and South Africa are exempt from application fees from 15th February 2024.
