Sri Lanka to Offer Free Tourist Visas to 40 Nations from May 2026

Sri Lanka grants free 30-day tourist visas (ETA) to 40 nations from May 25, 2026, with Maldives receiving 90 days.

The revised scheme permits nationals from forty countries, including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States, to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) free of charge. This facility applies to holders of Diplomatic, Official, Service, or Ordinary passports, and also extends free ETA processing to nationals of Maldives, Seychelles, and Singapore. While no fee is charged for these ETAs from 25 May 2026, travellers must still secure the authorisation before arrival; any ETA fees paid prior to this effective date are non-refundable. The complimentary 30-day visa includes a double-entry facility, with extensions beyond this period available upon payment of the relevant visa fee.
