Thailand Ends 60-Day Visa Exemption, Reverts to Shorter Stays for Many

Thailand's Cabinet has approved ending the 60-day visa-free stay for 93 countries, reverting most nationalities to a 30-day exemption with new entry caps.

The Cabinet's May 19, 2026 decision revokes the 60-day visa-free stay, meaning most of the 93 previously eligible nationalities, including British and US passport holders, will now receive a 30-day exemption. A new 15-day exemption category has been created for Seychelles, Maldives, and Mauritius, while India now falls under a curtailed visa-on-arrival programme alongside three other countries. A significant two-entries-per-year cap has also been introduced for all visa-exempt entries, effectively ending the previous practice of frequent border runs. Travellers can extend their 30-day exemption once for an additional 30 days at an immigration office for a fee of 1,900 baht. These revised regulations will come into force 15 days after publication in the Royal Gazette, which had not yet occurred as of mid-June 2026.
