Zanzibar Implements Mandatory Travel Insurance for All Tourists
Zanzibar now requires all tourists to purchase mandatory travel insurance for $44, covering medical and emergency assistance.
The new regulation, which commenced on 1 October 2024, applies to all travellers entering the Zanzibar archipelago, including those on business visas from that date. While the standard premium is USD 44 for adults, children aged three to seventeen pay USD 22, and those under three are exempt. This mandatory policy provides coverage for up to 92 days within the archipelago. Travellers may purchase the insurance online or upon arrival at Zanzibar Airport. Airlines have been advised not to deny boarding to passengers solely due to not possessing this insurance in advance.
